Created in USA in 1909, Formula Indy was first, practicallly restricted for American and Canadian drivers in career end process, with English-speaker pilots of other countries as exceptions. Later, with the growing popularity of the event all over the world, some Mexican pilots were allowed to compete, and in the 1990's, this car racing series decided, definitely, to become an international event, with races happening also in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, and sometimes, in Europe, in the last years of its long history.
The cars in an Indy's grid position start the race in movement, there are oval, street, and "traditional" racing tracks. There are bonus point for the pilot who starts in the pole position, and for the one who leads the race for the most number of laps.
All the drivers who take part in a race weekend win points, such as the table below:
1st place - 50 points

The most important round in this series (regarded for many people as a separate championship) is Indianapolis 500 miles. It counts points for the championship, but there are also cars and pilots from other series in USA, besides the ones who just compete at Indy 500.
IndyCar Series, comparing to the Europpean competitions, has smaller costs to compete, a much more easygoing atmosphere, and pilots and companies can be winners, successful, and many times, popular idols, not feeling the need to move to Europe anymore, especially to Formula One.
